Jennie T. Hutchinson

Jennie (Giovanna) Hutchinson of Wyckoff, NJ, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2014. She was 80 years old. Jennie was born in Popoli, Italy and is the daughter of Emilio and Nicoletta De Santis. As a little girl, Giovanna (Jennie), her mother Nicoletta and brother Ralph immigrated to the US and eventually became US citizens. They settled in Bronx, NY to start their American dream in the city that they came to love.

Jennie met the love of her life Alexander Giovanniello (also an Italian immigrant) in the Bronx, NY whom she married in 1956 and they had 3 children (Alex, Dean & Lisa). Alex tragically passed away in 1964. In 1968, she married John L. Hutchinson, a World War II veteran, had one son, Jay, and raised the family together.

Jennie was a devoted mother and homemaker. Family and friends were Jennie's passion in life. She will be forever be known for her strong perseverance during some difficult times in her life including being a breast cancer survivor. She was a member of OLGC, Washington Township and St. Elizabeth’s Church in Wyckoff.

Throughout her life she was an active volunteer having served on the Washington Township, NJ volunteer ambulance corp for many years. She also volunteered many years at the Bergen County Blood Center in Paramus NJ. Later on in life she found fulfillment in working in the offices of Dr. Joseph Pizzuro and Dr. Douglas Avella.

She is survived by four children: Alex and his wife June, Dean, Lisa and her husband Jeff & Jay and his wife Gina and by eight grandchildren.

A viewing will be held on Monday, June 16 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood, NJ. A Funeral mass celebrating Jennie’s life and faith will be held on Tuesday, June 17 at 10:30am at St. Elizabeth's RC Church in Wyckoff, NJ. Interment will follow at Maryrest Cemetery in Mahwah, NJ.
