I am so deeply sorry to hear of Joe’s passing. I will miss him very much. He was a wonderful friend and business partner whom I had the great pleasure and privilege to know and work with for nearly 40 years. We would not have been able to achieve the many successes we had with AEB and SCB without his continuous support, energy and talent. He was unfailingly patient, supportive and friendly to anyone who needed his help. I enjoyed our work and travel together as we partnered on so many projects.  His family was his pride and joy. So sorry to hear this.  I remember Joe fondly from my time working at American Express Bank.  Joe always had a twinkle in his eye and a big smile.  He was always helpful and someone you can count on.  Joe was the definition of a great guy.

I met Joe at AEB circa 1995.  No matter how hectic or chaotic it was, Joe always seemed to have a calm and serene aura about him.

I was lucky to have known Joe from his days at AEB and worked for him for several years in SCB.  The term gentleman has always been used to describe him and it truly fits him perfectly.  He is also universally liked - it would be hard to find someone that didn't want to work with him or for him or just hang out with him!  He is a great storyteller - I always liked to hear him tell the one about his tree in India.  As much time and effort as he put into work, he loved his family so much - that's where we heard the real stories, about his family Thanksgivings, his daughter's wedding, his son's adventures in TV....my heart breaks for you all. Deeply saddened by the sudden loss of a good friend and colleague.  Aside from  always enjoying his company  on the train home every day to Jersey,   Joe was appreciated by all who knew him to be kind a  and compassionate colleague, always ready to help in  solving their problems.

I am so sad to hear this shocking news. Joe Fernandez was one of the best human beings I have interacted with. He was always smiling and ready to help with a very positive attitude. He was a very competent leader and one could go to him with any problem and he would find a solution.

I first met him in 1996 when I moved from India to New York. He was one of my best partners at work. He was a key member of our management team and made a huge contribution to American Express Bank becoming Number One in customer satisfaction in the Correspondent Banking business.

Joe and I started one week apart in 1976 at American Express. We worked Card division together, enrolled in the same programming course and assigned to the Bank upon completion. During our 34 yrs together, we were always just a few cubicles away from each other in support of the Bank. I have fond memories of our many trips together to Poole and Frankfurt among others. Even through late night implementations/support, there was always time for a good laugh or two.Joe had a mellow, even tempered disposition. Well liked by all and a great leader. To Maria, Christine & Joe Jr., I share your sadness. May our sadness be cushioned by the fine memories we have of Joe. Rest in peace, viego amigo.

I am beyond words to express our sadness about the loss of my cousin, Joe.  He was an amazing, kind, and compassionate man who will be deeply missed by all. I pray for peace for Lourdes, Christy, Danny and the many family members, friends, and colleagues who are left with the void of a life ended far too soon. I was terribly shocked to hear of Joe's passing!  I worked with Joe in SCB for a good many years, and found him to be a real gentleman.  Joe was always willing to use his extensive knowledge and experience to help others, while at the same time he had an ability to keep tough tasks enjoyable and fun with a quick joke or funny observation.

Working with Joe was a pleasure. His calm demeanor and friendly nature made it easy in dealing with situations.
Lunch time was always fun to have his team go with him to sit together and eat and share stuff. many memories from that..
Once he told us that, he was at resort and some people in the lobby thought he was Tony Bennett and approached him.. we laughed a lot!

I started to work with Joe from 6th Feb 2017 and  he has been a wonderful person to work with.  After working in Asia for 30+ years, it was a big surprise for me and even wondered if there ever be such a nice line manager.  He has been very instrumental in me gaining confidence and delivering strong performance.  It was a great shock to me and my family to hear his demise as we never expected this, that too to happen for such a good gentleman.  We share our condolences to the family and pray the almighty for his soul to rest in peace.

To the Fernandez Family -  I am not sure what to say in the face of this difficult loss.  Joe was my boss for the 12 years I worked at AEB/SCB.   He was always a total gentleman, unflappable no matter what crisis was amiss in the office, supported unconditionally his colleagues and employees, and had a great sense of humor.  I knew that having a person like him for a manager was a rare thing, and haven't had another since.  He left a lasting impression.  It is truly devastating that he has left this world so unexpectedly.  My heart breaks for the inexplicable grief you are feeling.  Wishing you hope and healing.  May he rest in peace. 

Having Joe as a manager and friend was an honor.  I recall us going to a luncheon and Joe bring the life of the party.  His hearty laughter and ability to engage with others was inspiring.  I always called him the mayor as everyone knew him no matter where we went.

I too know Joe from AEB.  He worked for me shortly after joining the bank.  Joe was a fantastic, caring person always.  We had such good times at the bank and even years ago were like family.  We had some great trips overseas.   Wherever we were, Joe always seemed to have a relative. Remember meeting a cousin or maybe it was an Uncle in Geneva. Use to tease him about all his relatives.  So many memories are filling my brain as I write this .  I am shocked by Joe’s passing.  One of the nicest person I have known.    My condolences to all of you.  He was a great guy.

Worked  with Joe for almost 10 years. He was great coworker and a great leader.  His golf game could have used a few more years of work.  My condolences to his family.   He will be missed.

Joe and I were tasked with closing the Amex site in Poole, UK and we're taking the team there out to celebrate.  We were splitting the cost between our 2 cost centers.  Joe usually likes wine but we were both drinking Stella that night and were both quite inebriated.  One of our mates was struggling on a call with his wife (she was Argentinian) and handed the phone to Joe.  He reluctantly took it and began speaking to her in spanish calming her down.  Very smooth!

I worked at aeb.  Got to know joe there.  He was a real pro and a wonderful fella.  He leaves us long before he should have done so.  My condolences to the family. 

I new joe through my wife Nina and spent a lot of time with him at internet gathering he was one of a kind I am sorry for your loss  and wil pray for him
