

Joseph A. Panno, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2026, in Saddle River, New Jersey. Born on September 5, 1933, in Brooklyn, New York, Joseph lived a full and vibrant life of 92 years.
Joseph began his career as a butcher at La Frieda in New York before dedicating over three decades to the CWA Telephone Union. Later in his professional journey, he worked as a Telephone Communication Technician for NYU. He was always working hard to support the family that he loved
A proud veteran, Joseph served in the United States Army from 1958 to 1962. His service to his country was a source of pride and honor for him and his family.
Joseph shared 61 wonderful years of marriage with his loving wife, Lee Panno. Together they built a beautiful family that brought him immense joy and pride. He is survived by his son Anthony Panno and his wife Ellen; daughters Trish Tarna and her husband Charlie, Lynda Panno, and Lorraine Gregorwicz and her husband Martin. Known affectionately as "Poppy," Joseph was cherished by his grandchildren Michael (Liz), Tyler (Stephanie), Zachary (Sadie), Joseph, Jack, Samantha, Holden, Will, and Hailey.
He is also survived by his brother Tony Panno. Joseph was predeceased by his brothers Salvatore, William, Nick, and his sister Rose.
Joseph had a deep love for baseball and was an avid fan of the Brooklyn Dodgers and later the Mets. His passion for the sport extended beyond being a spectator; he found great joy in coaching his children's baseball games. These moments on the field created lasting memories for both him and those he coached.
An exceptional chef with a talent for bringing people together through food, and wine. Joseph loved cooking for family and friends. Whether it was a simple meal or an elaborate feast, he delighted in sharing time around the table with loved ones over one of his home-cooked meals
Visitation will be held at Becker Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm.
Funeral Mass will be held at St. Pius X, Old Tappan on Wednesday at 10:00 am.
Interment to follow at Maryrest Cemetery, Mahwah
