

Lena D. McArdle, 85, of Harrington Park, NJ, died peacefully on November 18, 2013. She was born on December 16, 1927, and was raised with her sister in a single parent household with the love and help of other family members after her mother died at an early age. She was a varsity cheerleader at Suffern High School where she graduated from in 1945. After high school she attended business school then went on to work at Rockland Coaches where she met her husband, the late George McArdle.They married in 1947 and moved to Harrington Park where she lived the rest of her life. Lena was an avid bowler and active in community affairs. For many years she was a volunteer for the Harrington Park Pop Warner Football League. She worked at the Pascack Valley Hospital Hospitality Shop from which she retired in 2006 after 35 years. She remained active after retiring attending PVH Act II luncheons, and missed a chance to meet her friends for lunch. A charitable person she supported the St. Jude Children’s Hospital, and was delighted when she received a call from Marlo Thomas who thanked her for her generosity. Above all she loved her family and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. Lena is survived by her children Georgette Andro and her husband Tim, Michael McArdle, Brett McArdle and his wife Kathy, and SFC Drew Paul McArdle US Army Ret. and his wife Stacy; grandchildren Katelyn McArdle Milatz and her husband Jayson, Ryan McArdle, SSGT Drew Paul McArdle Jr. NYANG, and John S. McArdle; and her sister Margaret Pearson. There will be a memorial mass at Our Lady of Victories, Harrington Park, NJ on December 14 at 10AM.
