With great sorrow and the deepest love, our family announces the passing of our matriarch, Maude "Caroline" Bastek, affectionately known as "Mommy", "Ma", Nonnie, "Cah" and Aunt Caroline on Tuesday, June 12, 2018. This remarkable person, a stellar example of America's greatest generation is survived by her beloved and adoring daughters Maureen Clarke, Barbara Comerford, Denise Pizza and Diane Turcott, her sons-in-law John Turcott, Mike Pizza, Jerry Hughes and daughter-in-law Carol Bastek, her grandchildren Sean, Michael, Jamie, Randi, Lauren, Caroline, Scott, Jillian and Adam and her beloved great grandchildren, Tyler, Courtney, Emma, Michael, Jamison, Caleb, Joshua, Aaron, Finn, Abigail, Jordan, Andrew, Madison, Naomi and Aidan, and her sisters Honey and Snooky. She joins her beloved son Jimmy and husband Adam in heaven. It all began when Caroline Lancellotti was born in Jersey City, on March 16, 1926. Caroline's life was about love, family, compassion, empathy and giving. She took care of her husband Adam through blindness and countless hospitalizations over decades, never leaving his side. To support her family, Caroline, became one of Jersey City's first female realtors, and later, in her 50's, graduated from nursing school and touched many lives in that career. While Caroline overcame so many obstacles, the tragedy of her life was losing her beloved son, Dr. James Victor Bastek, lovingly known as Jimmy. The purpose of her life was making sure her family was always together. To further this noble end, and insure their family's legacy, Nonnie and "Pop", created a family home where Beach Haven meets Holgate on Long Beach Island. Into her late 80's, Nonnie would make her incredible pancakes, play Michigan Rummy with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and welcome everyone into the magical home on Webster Avenue. The world would be a far better place if everyone had the feeling of love, warmth and comfort that comes from walking into Nonnie's and Pop's home. As they wished, Webster Avenue and LBI will be our family's home, heart and soul, forever. Nonnie's daughters, Maureen, Barbara, Denise and Diane, and daughter-in-law, Carol, carry on her tradition of love, dedication and family. The mourning of Nonnie's passing and celebration of her life, will be held from 3 to 8 pm, Friday, June 15th, at Becker Funeral Home, Westwood, NJ. The Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Mercy, 2 Fremont Avenue, Park Ridge, NJ Saturday, June 16, at 10 am. Nonnie will be laid to rest at the Garden of Memories, Township of Washington, NJ. In lieu of flowers, Caroline's wish was for support of the Foundation Fighting Blindness, In Memory of Maude Caroline Bastek, 7168 Columbia Gateway Drive, Suite 100, Columbia, Maryland 21046. We can all honor her life through love, family and making magical memories.
