My mother Agnes Coogan worked for Mr. Meckler in the Corporate Buying at Macys for many years.  She admired Mr. Meckler’s professional and his kindness.  He was a strong leader with a very gentle voice.  He inspired her to work hard, and leave no stone unturned. I am so sorry to hear of his passing, and I extended my deepest condolences to all of his beloved family and friends.  This is truly a painful loss.  Sincerely heartbroken,  Robin Coogan-Laurita Agnes Coogan’s oldest daughter.

I am among many former Macy's employees with only fond memories of Norman.  I don't know that you'll remember but I was the one at a company day-out who caught a line-drive with my thumb.   I was taken to Pascack Hospital that day. All in all it 's still a fond memory.  Taken too soon.

We were so saddened to hear about the sudden passing of Norman. He was a true gentleman and will be missed by the Oceanwalk community.

Norman was a true gentleman and loved by everyone he knew.  We were so fortunate to have Norman and Rosemary, as neighbours and friends in New Smyrna Beach.  Looked forward every November to catching up and spending time with them.  We will miss your infectious smile and loving ways.  RIP friend. 




I have been very lucky in my life and met many interesting people, but one of the most intelligent, caring, professional and respectful people I have been lucky enough to meet was Norman.
Whenever I was on the ships, Marisa knew she had the caring counsel of Norman and Rosemary, a truly fabulous couple, who the took her into their circle and made her feel safe and cared for .
We all have to leave this planet at some time ….but it is always especially sad when a special human being leaves us , and Norman was a very special person.
We will miss him at Ocean Walk and in New Smyrna Beach as will the world.
Norman, you were well loved and my love and prayers go out for you and to your beautiful wife and my special friend Rosemary, as well as all your family and friends.

We were SO saddened to hear of Norm’s sudden passing. He touched so many lives with his warm smiles and genuine interest in everyone. He had a great sense of humor and such a kind heart.
He organized bocce at Ocean Walk every week for years- setting up teams, keeping score and cheering for everyone. Our daughter wouldn’t even play if Norm wasn’t there. 
Everyone became a better person for having such a wonderful friend.

Norman was a great boss and mentor to us.
We often travelled together around Europe and Turkey. So many unplanned things happened on the road. In Turkey, once, Norman, Zeynep Zeljko,   and myself were travelling by car from Izmir to Denizli. Heavy rain follwed us from the start. Sudenly, in the middle  of nowhere, we had a flat tire. By the time we took the spare tire out, our luggage and  all samples we took with us were wet and we four were soaked. Telephone service was weak so we rushed to the trucks parked on the servise road for help. Two drivers jumped out of the truck and changed our tire in no time. We were ready to offer the world for the help but they never wanted and payment. We strugled making them take the tip. Such kindness touched us all. 
We continued the trip and kept all appointments the next day . We and the teams in the factories all laughted together while working with wet samples. None of us caught a cold that day and we all felt our bond just got stronger. 

Another time  Norman was visiting Budapest and only office work was planned. However, problems in production in Poland occured and the same afternoon we decided to cancel the supper and drive to Poland instead.
So easy was our connection. Job needed to be done. 

We were never scared to tell Norman about problems and even mistakes. He would know how to scold you with love and at the end even give you a compliment. But one would never do the  same mistake again and not out of fear but out of shame. He knew how to manage with encouraging us all. 

Relationship with Norman  started at work but continued as life long frienship. We will remember and miss him for ever.

One of the memories captured that we will always have 

Dear Ronnie, Fran, Sue and Richard,
James and I were so saddened and heartbroken by the news of Norman’s passing. Know that we are thinking of you and praying for you during this difficult time. We have many fond memories over the years of the time we spend together whether visiting Italy a few times or just dinner or chats. I was fortunate to know him almost 38 years which spanned working with and for him at Macy’s and our friendship continued after Macy’s. James and I were fortunate that he and Ronnie attended milestones in our lives our wedding, christening for our son. Once you became of friend of Norman’s you were a friend for life. He was always concerned for others and was always there even during difficult times. When my own dad and mom passed, he appeared even though we had not spoken or seen each other in a while. He was the first person to reach out and send a message and it was comforting to have both him and Ronnie there and it is a testament to what a wonderful, kind person he was. Family was so important to him and it shows with all the wonderful pictures here but he extended that onto his friends as well. Norman, you will be greatly missed by all that had the privilege of knowing you and calling you their friend. Our deepest sympathy and condolences go out to the entire family. 


Deeply sorry to hear about Norm he was my friend for many years we played bocce ball we went to lunch many times together we even did a little fishing @ NSB. My deepest  Condolences to Rosemary and his family may norm rest in peace amen

We always looked forward to Norm and Rosemary's return to Oceanwalk for the winter.  Norm could be counted on to show up early on Monday mornings to make the coffee for the guys and every Tuesday for Men's Bocce Ball. Course he was there on Wednesdays too for Ladies Bocce to offer his support. Most of all though, I can't think of a time when I ran into Norm and he wasn't offering a welcoming smile so that's how I'll remember him. He will be missed.

I first met Norman some 53 years ago,  please take comfort knowing that he touched some many lives in such a positive way and was always there when someone needed a shoulder or just someone who would listen, far to many stories to share but I'll leave you with one Normanism, he was fond of saying  'I gotta tell you'

Norm was the consummate gentleman. His positive spirit and attitude was infectious. He was a wonderful addition to the Oceanwalk community and will be greatly missed. 

You are in my heart and thoughts. I hope you always hold onto the warm and wonderful memories you shared together, and they continue to bring you comfort and peace. With deepest sympathy, Zermen.

Norman and I were friends and colleagues at Macy’s for 40 years. He and I made one trip to China that was quite challenging.  One flight that was taking us to another Province was cancelled and we had a cab driver driving us from hotel to hotel to try and find a place to stay for the night.  Everything was booked solid and we thought we would have to sleep on couches in the lobby. At around 2 am, we finally found a place to stay for the night, but then had to get up early to make the flight in the morning! Norman was a trouper and went with the flow.  In the past several years, I would see him and the family at Crecco’s restaurant in New Jersey which they went to every Friday night.  It was nice catching up and meeting the whole family. Norman was such a kind, compassionate man.  He was the first to come to my husband’s wake and I was shocked to see him.  That tells you the type of man he was!! I will miss him and send my deepest sympathy and condolences to his family! 🙏❤️

I am really so sorry to hear such a bad news... I remember the times spent together when he was working in our Macy's Italy office. He was a very nice, sweet and respectful person for all of us. Rest in peace dear Norman. My deepest condolences to his family.
