Patrick was born in Mooneenagear, Glenfarne, Co. Leitrim, Ireland to Patrick and Anne (née Healy) McManus. He spent time in England and Germany, but it was in America that he found the greatest journey of his life. The story goes that one of his friends came up to him saying, “I’ve got just the girl for you,” and boy was he right. Margaret was equal parts funny, strong, and beautiful, and the two were married at the church of St. Jerome in the Bronx in 1958. Though much has changed since then, their deep love and care for one another never did.
Patrick worked hard to provide a wonderful life for his children and took pride in raising them in Haworth. He served his country as a Corporal in the United States Army, worked for the New York Telephone Company (where he was famous for never turning down overtime), and worked as a real estate agent in Dumont after retiring. During his free time, Patrick could be found dancing (the slow waltz was his favorite), singing along to music (he’d tell you he’s pretty good but admit he is no Jim Reeves), and telling jokes and stories (of which he had plenty). In recent years, he also enjoyed driving around looking at houses (particularly in Haworth) and admiring nature (especially watching birds at the feeder).
In addition to his beloved wife, Patrick is predeceased by his parents, siblings Mary, Felix, Hannah, Denis, Bridget, Tim, and Cecilia.
Patrick’s infectious laugh, generous spirit, signature yodeling, and of course, his extremely good looks will be missed by his children Kevin (Larkin), Donna Culloo (Greg), Margaret St. Pierre (Bill), Stephen (Tiffany), Patricia Giordano (Bill), and Michael (Heidi) and grandchildren Christopher, Austin, Catherine, Brendan, Shannon, Logan, Ashleigh, and Abigail. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and his dear friend Rory Doyle.
Those that were lucky enough to know him will look back on their cherished memories with a smile and find comfort in knowing that Patrick’s long life was filled with love.
The family will receive visitors on Friday April 5th from 4-8 P.M. at Becker Funeral Home in Westwood, NJ. A Mass celebrating Patrick’s life and faith will be held at Sacred Heart Church in Haworth, NJ on Saturday April 6th at 10 A.M. with interment at Rockland Cemetery in Sparkill, NY to follow.
