Park Ridge – Richard (Dick) Alan Prusha, 81, entered his heavenly home on Sunday, November 15, welcomed by his family, friends, and Savior. Born in Marshalltown, Iowa, on April 13, 1939, Richard was the loving son of Alan and Blanche (Ledvina) Prusha. As a graduate of St. Mary’s High School, in Marshalltown, Richard was an accomplished athlete earning county and state recognition as a football, wrestler and basketball player, and was named to the Iowa All State Football Team in 1956. Richard earned his undergraduate degree from Loras College, Dubuque, IA, and was a valued member on their football and wrestling teams as well.
Known for his strength of character and fortitude, Richard served his country as a Lieutenant Commander in the United States Navy, and later served in the Naval Reserve, Virginia Beach, VA. His professional career included executive positions in the heating and air conditioning industry at Lennox, Dunham Bush, and Hydrotherm, Inc. Richard was known as a great man of faith, and was as parishioner at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church where he volunteered as a lector and served as past President on the Parish Council.
In retirement, Richard enjoyed his coin collection, gardening, daily local errands, and his faithful companion Mack. As an avid animal lover, he is no doubt reunited with all his past pets throughout the years including his beloved dog, Tori. Richard’s greatest joy and source of pride was also watching his children and grandchildren compete and excel on the playing fields of Bergen County. He was without a doubt, their biggest fan and supporter. Local gyms and arenas will undoubtedly miss his presence and spirit. He loved the joy of competition.
Richard is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ethel Williams Prusha, and children, Cynthia Schneider (David), Catherine Jobson, (James), Mark Prusha, Timothy Prusha, (Pamela), Laura Laughton, (Bruce) and Elizabeth Connallon, (Michael). His grandchildren: Steven, Sarah, Samuel and Sandra Schneider, Jennifer and James Jobson, Jake and Tyler Prusha, Elena and Colby Laughton, Everett and Emily Connallon, and great granddaughter, Francesca Martin, will continue his legacy in embracing faith, a good work ethic and a positive approach in all they do.
Surviving Richard are his loving sisters, Regina Petersohn, Carol Paxson, and Mary Mauk, from Marshalltown, IA, in addition to his cousins, nieces and nephews. Richard is pre-deceased by his parents, Alan and Blanche Prusha, and his grandson Scott Schneider. Visitation will be held at the Becker Funeral Home, Westwood, on Wednesday, November 18, from 2:00 – 4:00 pm and 6:00 – 8:00 pm. A Catholic mass will be held at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, Park Ridge, on Thursday, November 19 at 11:00 am.
