

He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 55 years, Virginia (“Ginny”) Barrett Agans, and by his parents, Robert H. and Evelyn A. Agans of Middlesex, NJ, both of whom served as officers in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He is survived by his son, Robert Barrett Agans, and his wife, Laura, of Old Tappan, NJ; and his son, Patrick Hamilton Agans, and his wife, Sunny, of Thousand Oaks, CA; along with his four grandchildren — Robert Thomas, William Richard, John Wilder Hamilton, and Ivy Georgette Agans; and his siblings, James, Christopher, and Sharon Daur.
Bob grew up in Middlesex, NJ, and attended Rutgers University, where he was a member of the crew team and graduated with a B.A. in Economics. He also served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, receiving an honorable discharge in 1971.
Following graduation, Bob began a 30-year career with the General Electric Company, where he held a variety of finance positions beginning in GE’s Financial Management Training Program and later the Corporate Audit Staff. He went on to serve as finance chief at several GE businesses, including GE Capital’s real estate financial operations and equipment leasing divisions. At GE, he led finance operations for businesses in the Far East and served as CFO for GE’s Information Services and Communications & Services divisions. During his final six years with GE, Bob was CEO of GE Capital’s semi-trailer rental and modular space leasing businesses, overseeing operations across the U.S., Canada, and Europe.
After retiring from GE, Bob continued his career in private equity in the Far East. He and Ginny later settled in the Wexford community on Hilton Head Island, where they enjoyed many friendships and activities.
Bob enjoyed golf and boating and volunteered at St. Francis by the Sea Catholic Church. Within Wexford, he served on several committees and as President of the Wexford Board for two years.
A Funeral Mass to honor and celebrate Bob's life will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at 12:30 p.m. at St. Pius X Church in Old Tappan, NJ.
