

Alfredo Rivera (affectionately known as Freddy), 82, of Hartford, beloved husband for 59 years of Carmen Maria Vega, passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at Hartford Hospital. Born in Cayey, Puerto Rico, on October 25, 1942, he was the son of the late Angela Rivera. Freddy worked for Pratt & Whitney for 30 years and was extremely proud of his meaningful contributions as a Line Operator. He was known for his daily walks around the neighborhood, during which he formed deep relationships with his neighbors. Freddy was a longtime faithful communicant of St. Lawrence O’Toole Church in Hartford and taught Sunday school for many years. He loved playing baseball as a young man and was an avid fan of the New York Yankees. More than anything, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who cherished his time spent with family.
Freddy passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family. He will be forever missed by his wife, Carmen; his children, Freddy Rivera Jr. and wife Tammy of West Hartford, and Elsie Gonzalez and husband Sammy of Hartford; his adored grandchildren, Sammy Gonzalez and wife Elsie, Jasmin Torres and wife Kristi, Jazmine Rivera and wife Malisa, Alfredo Rivera III and wife Brittany; and his cherished great-grandchildren, Samaria Gonzalez, Eden Gonzalez, Honor Torres, and Olivia Torres. He is also survived by his brothers, Serafin and Jose; his sisters, Elsia, Elsie, and Rosa; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Calling hours will be Monday, February 3, from 8:30-9:30 a.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Lawrence O’Toole Church of Maria Reina De La Paz Parish, 494 New Britain Avenue, Hartford. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Donations in Freddy’s memory may be made to St. Lawrence O’Toole Church.
