

Amedeo 'Al' M. Aiello, 87, of Wethersfield, beloved husband of Rose (Pope) Aiello, died Friday (June 4, 2010) at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford. Born in Iovoli, Province of Catanzaro, Calabria, Italy, son of the late Francesco and Rose (Morelli) Aiello, Al lived in Hartford for many years prior to moving to Wethersfield in 1964. He was employed by G. Fox & Co. for 44 years prior to his retirement in 1984. He worked his way up the corporate ladder starting as a stock boy and moved up, retiring as a department manager. Al was a U.S. Army veteran having served during World War II. Al was proud of his service having served as a paratrooper in the Office of Strategic Services with Donovan's Devils. He was awarded a Bronze Star and he was a member of the VFW Post # 9945 in Wethersfield. Beside his devoted wife of 64 years, Al is survived by two loving daughters and their husbands; Nancy Clair and her husband, Dennis, of Rocky Hill and Joan Colandrea and her husband, Anthony, of Rocky Hill; a sister, Victoria LaVigne of Rocky Hill; five grandchildren, Megan Clair and her fiancé, Justin Aldridge of Boston, Brendan Clair of Rocky Hill, Katherine Mikiewicz and her husband Adam of Kensington, Melissa Muldoon and her husband, Justin, and John Colandrea all of Rocky Hill as well as a great granddaughter, Chloe Violet Muldoon. Al also leaves his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Helen and Franco Tomaino and Angeline and James Flanigan, all of Wethersfield and many beloved nieces, nephews and friends. Al was predeceased by six brothers and sisters. We wish to thank our special neighbors, the Clemens and Guilfoyle families for their devotion to Al over the years. More than anything Al loved his family, his faith and his country. He will be greatly missed by his many relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 8 beginning at 10 a.m. from the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield followed by a Mass of Christian Burial that will be celebrated at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 56 Hartford Ave., Wethersfield. Burial will be in Village Cemetery, Wethersfield with full military honors. Calling hours will be Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral chapel in Wethersfield.
