

Andrea (Steucek) Volpe, 60, of Niantic, formerly of Wethersfield, loving and devoted wife for 24 years of Raymond A. Volpe, died Friday, October 9, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Hartford, October 2, 1955 and is the daughter of the Jeannine (Aubin) Steucek of Wethersfield and the late Albert Charles Steucek. Andrea earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering and MBA from UConn and was formerly a high school science teacher. Andrea’s passion was the outdoors, hiking, camping, skiing, biking, swimming, golfing and tennis. She embraced being a “Soccer Mom” never missing the opportunity to cheer on Ross and AJ. She was especially happy getting her hands dirty in her flower garden and watching sun sets on the beach. After her retirement, tennis and golf with the “ladies” established some warm and loving friendships. Andrea was an avid cyclist, once biking cross country with a group of friends and recently with her husband, Ray, completed a bicycle tour of Tuscany, Italy. Andrea also loved horses and volunteered at High Hopes Therapeutic Horseback Riding in Old Lyme. She was a member of First Church of Christ, Wethersfield, where she volunteered and was a member of the hand bell choir. Andrea lived life on her own terms. Besides her husband and mother, Andrea will be dearly missed by two sons, Ross H. Volpe, a Masters student at the University of Colorado and Lt. Albert “A.J.” Volpe, presently serving in the U.S. Army; a brother, Thomas Steucek and wife, Erika of Portsmouth, NH; nieces, Elizabeth and Cara, and her sister-in-law, Beth Steucek of Rye, NH. She is also survived by her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Joseph and Betty Volpe and Daniel and Michelle Volpe of New York and nieces, Suzanne and her husband Zac; nephews, Dan and his wife Amanda and John Volpe. Besides her father, Andrea was predeceased by a brother, Peter Steucek and a sister, Wendy Forte.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday (October 17) at 10 a.m. at First Church of Christ, 250 Main St., Wethersfield. There are no calling hours.
