

Ann Marie (LaCava) Murasso, 89, of Westbrook, formerly of Rocky Hill where she lived for 52 years, died peacefully on Friday, April 1, 2016 in West Harford at St. Mary Home. Born one of ten children in Hartford on December 14, 1926, Ann was the daughter of the late Pasquale and Carmela (Laraia) LaCava, and the wife of the late Nicholas S. Murasso, to whom she was married for 33 years. Ann graduated from Bulkeley High School in 1944, after which she sang for the then Bel Canto Orchestra. Ann worked as a telephone operator for the Southern New England Telephone Co., as customer service representative for Hartford Fire Insurance, Aetna Fire; a switchboard receptionist for Kahn & Company of Wethersfield, Hartford Steel Ball and Caldor, both in Rocky Hill, and then in customer service at the Metropolitan Water District, from where she retired in 1987. Throughout these years, Ann also worked in the Family-owned Dry Cleaners: Elm Cleaners in Old Wethersfield and Daniels Cleaners in Hartford. Ann was a woman of incredibly strong faith. She loved her parish of St. James, where she was a member of the choir, active in the St. James Woman’s Society and a member of the parish council. Ann possessed an outgoing, vivacious and spirited personality. She loved people, loved to sing, to laugh and was always ready to stop and speak with anyone who she came into contact with. Throughout her working years, Ann was admired, loved and respected by so many people whose lives she touched with her compassion, her joy for life, and her high-spirited personality. Ann is survived by her two sons, the Reverend Jeremiah N. Murasso, of Westbrook and Alphonse J. Murasso and partner, Jesse Ensling, of New Jersey, and a daughter, Annmarie Salvato Flannery of Wethersfield and three granddaughters who she adored: Nichole Salvato and Elizabeth and Briana Flannery. She also leaves two sisters: Eleanor D’Esopo of Old Saybrook, Mary Pandolfe of Westbrook; a brother, Dominic LaCava of Glastonbury and a sister-in-law, Victoria LaCava of Wethersfield. Ann leaves many nieces and nephews who she loved dearly. In addition to her husband Nicholas, Ann is predeceased by her son-in-law, John Salvato; brothers, Jerry and Rocco LaCava; three sisters, Rose Cancelmo, Frances Dammiller and Antoinette Cicalese.
The funeral will be Tuesday, April 5 at 10 a.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. James Church, 767 Elm Street, Rocky Hill. Ann’s son, the Reverend Jeremiah N. Murasso, will be the celebrant for the funeral Mass. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Friends may call on Monday evening from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral chapel. The family extends heart-felt appreciation to the staff at the Mercy Community at St. Mary Home, West Hartford, for their dedicated and conscientious care. Special appreciation goes to the compassionate care that was given to Ann by the staff on both the Fitzgerald Wing and Baggot Street, where Ann resided for the last three years.
