

Barbara Ann (Sparveri) DeMilia, 80, of Newington, loving wife for 60 years of Vincent L. DeMilia, passed away on Monday (July 12, 2010) at Hartford Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Born in Hartford on October 14, 1929, she was the daughter of the late William and Rose (Cascio) Sparveri. Barbara was employed by the Newington Board of Education as a teacher for 24 years, starting out at Elizabeth Green Elementary School and finishing her career at John Wallace Middle School. She was a faithful communicant of Holy Spirit Church and was very involved with volunteer work, but nothing was more important to her than her family. Besides her husband, Barbara is survived by her devoted children, William DeMilia and his wife Marie of Newington and Rita Peretto and her husband James of Rocky Hill; her four cherished grandchildren, Nicole, William, Michael and Christopher; her brother, Joseph Sparveri of Niantic and Naples, FL; three sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, Carol Sparveri of Orlando, FL, Angela D'Onofrio of Wethersfield and Joseph DeMilia and his wife Carol of West Hartford as well as many nieces and nephews. Barbara was predeceased by a brother, Richard Sparveri. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday (July 15, 2010) at 12 p.m. at Holy Spirit Church, 183 Church St., Newington. Burial will be private. Family and friends may call at the church from 10-12 p.m. prior to the Mass.
