Beverley Rosemarie Swider Murphy passed away on July 6, 2025, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer, with her loving daughters holding her hands. She was 77 years old.
Born in Hartford, Connecticut, Beverley began her life in Windsor Locks before moving to Hartford’s South End, where she spent her formative years. A proud member of the first graduating class of South Catholic High School in 1965, she carried a deep sense of family and community throughout her life.
Beverley married Thomas J. Murphy and settled in Newington, where she began her lifelong vocation: motherhood. After a brief career at Connecticut Bank and Trust, she chose to stay home after witnessing her daughter Jennifer take her first steps—an early sign of the priority she placed on family above all else. She later welcomed her second daughter, Sherri-Ann, and cherished the years spent raising her girls and being involved in their education and activities.
When her daughters entered middle school, Beverley returned to the workforce at CBT before transitioning into medical office management and billing. She worked for several years at Cardiology P.C. in Hartford before launching her own medical billing business, serving physicians and therapists throughout the area. She was known for her acumen, diligence, and care for her clients—but even more so for her warmth and generosity.
Beverley was the heart of every family gathering. She hosted countless celebrations at her home and lake house, always welcoming guests with open arms and a fresh pot of coffee. She had a gift for sewing and would gladly create anything—from custom garments to full upholstery projects—for anyone who asked. And Beverley was always there - if you needed a shoulder to lean on, organizational expertise, help wrapping Christmas presents at the last minute, or just someone to sit and talk with.
Her greatest joys were her five beloved grandchildren: Jake, Owen, Adele, Julien, and Henry. She proudly traveled far and wide—from Missouri to Quebec to Manhattan—to cheer them on at hockey games, lacrosse matches, golf outings, baseball games and flag football. She enjoyed taking each of them to Friendly’s for ice cream, and on various walks and other adventures. Her unwavering support and boundless love were felt in every hug, every phone call, every plane ride and every ice cream cone.
Beverley also shared a deep love of travel-especially when it meant being with her family. From the beaches of Harwich Port to the quiet serenity of Averill Lake in Vermont, and from Sea Island Georgia to Disney to the Bahamas, and from Switzerland to Italy to Paris and Brittany, France, she embraced every opportunity for adventure. She visited the Grand Canyon twice—once with her daughters and their families, fulfilling the very first item on her bucket list. She especially cherished sunset walks along the beach collecting seashells and sea glass with her grandchildren and "moose hunting" excursions in Vermont. But more than any destination, Beverley’s favorite place was wherever her family happened to be.
Beverley shared deep bonds with her sister, Sandra, or “Sissy”, with whom she lived in recent years, and with her goddaughter, Melanie, who she cherished as if she were her own daughter. Sandra and Melanie’s love and devotion provided comfort and care to Beverley especially in recent months, and their loyalty never wavered.
Beverley was predeceased by her beloved parents, Joseph and Jean Swider, of Hartford, and by her former husband, Thomas Murphy, of Wethersfield. She will be dearly missed by her daughters: Jennifer Murphy Cattier and her husband Jacques of New York, NY; and Sherri-Ann Hughes Watson and her husband Matt of Charlton, MA; her adored grandchildren: Jake Allen Hughes, Owen Patrick Hughes, and Henry Thomas Watson of Charlton, MA; Adele Cattier and Julien Cattier of New York, NY; her devoted sister: Sandra Swider of Wethersfield, and her partner John Baklavas; her goddaughter and niece: Melanie Swider Wenz and her husband Rob Wenz of Wethersfield; her brother: Robert Swider and his wife Alice Swider of Hebron, as well as many nieces and nephews and their families.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, July 17 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 18 at 10:00 a.m. in Corpus Christi Church, 601 Silas Deane Highway, Wethersfield (attendees are asked to go directly to the church).
