Carlo “Nick” Bellizzi, 86, of West Hartford, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 with his three sons at his bedside. Born in San Basile, province of Cosenza, region of Calabria, Italy on August 7, 1937, he was the son of the late Vincenzo and Madallena (Pugliese) Bellizzi.
At the age of 17 Carlo, alongside his father and younger brother, immigrated to the United States with only hope in their pockets in pursuit of the American Dream. Despite countless challenges, Carlo’s unwavering determination and pride fueled his relentless efforts for a better future. Through his tireless work ethic, Carlo not only achieved personal success but also dedicated himself to raising and providing for his three sons.
Carlo served proudly in the U.S. Army for 26 years and was the owner of Vacuums Unlimited in West Hartford for 42 years. He enjoyed dancing, cooking, playing cards, checkers and was happiest when he was surrounded by his family and friends.
He cherished nurturing his unique roses and was quite the gardener, often sharing his massive tomatoes, string beans, basil and mint with family, neighbors and local restaurants.
Carlo also enjoyed socializing and having a good time, evident with a smile that stretched from ear to ear. His infectious laugh and good-natured humor would always accompany him as he danced the night away in West Hartford Center and Casa Mia in Rocky Hill.
Carlo is survived by his three sons, Vincent “Enzo” Bellizzi and wife Dionna of Jacksonville, FL, Francis “Frank” Bellizzi and wife Carla of South Windsor and Adam Bellizzi of West Hartford and four adored grandchildren, Vincenzo Bellizzi of Jacksonville, FL and Anthony, Christina and Angelina Bellizzi of South Windsor.
He also leaves his sister-in-law, Maria Bellizzi of Cromwell and a very special nephew, Dominick Bellizzi and his wife Carolyn and daughter Juliana, as well as many extended family members, both in the U.S. and Italy, including the families of Vincenzino and Francino Bellizzi of San Basile. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Ralph Bellizzi; his sister, Maria Bellizzi and his nephew, James “Jimmy” Bellizzi. A special thanks to UConn Medical Center of Farmington and their Gold Team to include Edyta, Tamara, Carmen, Heather, Jason and Sara.
Calling hours will be Tuesday, March 26 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. concluding with a Prayer Service at 12 p.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield. Entombment with military honors will follow in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield.
