

Born on April 27, 1962, in New Haven, Eddie was the son of the late Alberto and Luz Rodriguez. From a young age, he knew he wanted to serve in law enforcement. Following his high school graduation, Eddie joined the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1987. He then pursued his dream by attending the Police Academy, graduating with distinction.
Eddie returned to his hometown to serve as a dedicated New Haven police officer. Over the course of his career, he rose through the ranks and retired as a detective in 2005. His passion for justice led him to become a police inspector with the Division of Criminal Justice, where he was also part of the Hartford Shooting Task Force. He officially retired with the Cold Case Unit as a police inspector, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and service. Law enforcement was truly Eddie’s passion, he cherished his relationships with the lifelong brothers and sisters he made along the way.
Beyond his professional life, Eddie was a sports enthusiast with a special love for the New York Mets and Washington Redskins. He was also an avid golfer. Above all, Eddie cherished his family, he adored spending time with his family and his loyal companion, Bear.
Eddie is survived by his loving wife, Jill Mary (Canning) Rodriguez; his children, Austin Rodriguez, Sabrina Rodriguez, Cody Wilkinson, and Savannah Wilkinson; his grandchildren, Aleck, Sevyn, and Ivory Rodriguez; his sister, Lucy Rodriguez; his brothers, Alberto Jr., Orlando, and Philip Rodriguez, along with their spouses.
Eddie's zest for life left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the law enforcement community he served with such passion and integrity.
The Rodriguez family invites you to join them and celebrate Eddie’s life on Thursday, March 6, 2025 from 3:00-6:30 p.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield, followed by a Tribute of Remembrance at 6:30 p.m. and concluding with full military honors. In honoring Eddie’s wishes, there will be no burial services at this time.
