

Franz J. Gaus, 86, of New Britain, departed this life on Monday (April 18, 2022) surrounded by family. He was born on March 6,1936 in Ehrenstein, Germany to the late Erhard and Barbara (Seidl) Gaus. After Hauptschule, Franz pursued his Baker/Pastry Apprenticeship (Berufsausbildungen). He immigrated to the United States in 1964 and settled in New Britain Connecticut where he met and married the love of his life Dolores B. (Riccio) Gaus. Over his 40-plus-year career he worked at a variety of venues from small independently-owned bakeries to hotels, retiring at the end of his career from Whole Foods Market, West Hartford in 2005. Franz was a member of St. Maurice Church in New Britain, CT. He enjoyed gardening and all things outdoors. After the passing of his wife in 2012 Franz spent more and more time with his daughter, son-in-law and grandsons in Pennsylvania, eventually moving in with them in 2018. He spent summers in Cape Cod where he enjoyed his time on the beach and at the West Dennis Yacht Club sharing timeless tales, his infectious smile, and an overall sense of humility surrounding a life well-travelled and well-lived. He will be remembered by all who had the good fortune of knowing him as a kind and gentle soul. He was a loving husband, an amazing father and Opa and a truly great man. He leaves to cherish his memory, a loving daughter and son-in-law Christiana M. (Gaus) and Thomas A. Bielinski of Doylestown, PA and four loving grandsons Johnathon, Joseph, James and Jack Bielinski of Doylestown, PA. He leaves a twin brother, Johannes Gaus and his wife Ilse of Ehrlingen, Germany; a sister, Antonie Gaus, Germany; a sister, Theresia (Gaus) Kloiber, Germany; a sister, Philippine Gaus, Germany and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Margareta (Gaus) Schotz and Maria Gaus. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 25, 2022 at 10AM in St. Maurice Church, 100 Wightman Rd., New Britain. Burial will be at Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield, CT to which family and friends are invited. There are no calling hours.
