Gensho Javier Yrayta, 78, of Hartford, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2021 with the love of his family surrounding him. Gensho was born in Bolognesi, Ancash, Peru in 1943 to Juan Alcides Yrayta and Basilisa Tomasa Aparicio. Seeking better opportunities, he made his way to the capital of Lima, where he met and married the love of his life, Norma. He later established his first business as an electro mechanic. Although his shop thrived due to his hard work and many abilities, as a family they decided in 1979 to come to this country in search of a better future for their growing family. Here he worked in construction for Local 230 where he quickly ascended in rank and was held in high regard. He also partnered with his brother and nephew and spearheaded his 2nd small business, Hartford Construction Inc.. His work ethic and honorable nature were admired and respected by many.
He was a proud American citizen but he never forgot his roots and as in Lima, he became an active leader in the local Bolognesi community serving four terms as President of the Bolognesi Social Club. He formed their first competitive Division 1 soccer team, Deportivo Bolognesi which later went on to win many state and regional championships. Among his many accomplishments, that which he was most proud of was having been an indispensable force behind the establishment of the first Peruvian Consulate office in Hartford, CT in 2002 which benefitted thousands of Peruvians living in Connecticut and Rhode Island. Known by all his buddies as "Chico", Gensho was a lifelong soccer fanatic, a lover of huayno and could never say no to a nice cold "chela". He will be remembered always with a smile on his face, his zest for life and his infamous jokes. He was the life of every party. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 50 years, Norma Yrayta (Vivar); children Javier Yrayta and his wife Myriam Gonzalez, Melissa Evelyn Riojas and her husband Carlos Riojas, Carolina Vega and her husband Carlos Vega and Angie Yrayta and her husband Salatiel Gutierrez. Gensho was a proud grandfather to his 11 grandchildren: Isabella, Evan, Evelyn, Mia, Adalyn, Valeria, Alejandro, Vanessa, Valentino, Gareth and Carlos. He is predeceased by his sister Petronila Susaya and survived by his sisters; Victoria Herrera, Graciela Yrayta, Domitila Rivera, Eugenia Yrayta, Noemi Rodriguez and his brother Jorge Yrayta. Gensho was deeply loved and cherished, he will be infinitely missed and fondly remembered.
