

George H. Hernandez, Jr., 96, of Hartford, beloved husband for 66 years of Gladys (Nunez) Hernandez, passed away peacefully on Wednesday (January 28, 2015) surrounded by his loving family. Born in New Haven on October 23, 1918, he was the son of the late George H. Hernandez, Sr. and Haddie (Thorman) Hernandez and grew up in Manchester, NH prior to moving to Hartford, where he lived for over 62 years. George was a proud WWII veteran of the U.S. Army. He was an avid bowler and a member of many clubs and organizations. He was also a longtime, faithful member of Center Church, First Church of Christ in Hartford. Sadly, he was predeceased by two beloved sons, George H. Hernandez, III and Charles C. Hernandez. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, George will be dearly missed by his loving wife, Gladys; his son, David K. Hernandez of Framingham, MA; two daughters, Andrea L. Hernandez and her wife Lisa Maturo of Newington, and Claudia J. Hernandez of Hartford; George III’s partner, James B. Herring of Chicago who was like another son, and his four adored grandchildren, Olivia, William, Cecelia and Hunter. He is also survived by several beloved nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday (February 4) at 11 a.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield. Burial with military honors will be held in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Family and friends may call on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
