

George Anthony LaCava Jr., 87 of Wethersfield, a quiet, gentle, reserved man who offered simple advice and words of wisdom, passed away peacefully on April 5th, 2026, surrounded by his family. Born in Hartford on June 10th,1938 to the late George and Annamarie LaCava, he was proud to be one of their 14 children. As a lifelong resident of Wethersfield, George graduated from Wethersfield High School in 1956. In 1960, he received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Hillyer College, now known as the University of Hartford Barney School of Business.
George served his country in the 76th division of the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1967, first on active duty and then in the reserves. After completing his active military service, George worked as an accountant for a short time.
He then joined his brothers in the family business, LaCava Construction Company, and spent the rest of his career using his business and accounting skills to make the dream of home ownership a reality for countless families.
In addition to his business success, George was committed to giving back to his community. He served for several years on the Board of Trustees of Saint Mary Home, now a part of The Mercy Community, and was chairman from 1991 to 1994. He was on the advisory board of Liberty Bank and the finance committee of the Home Builders Association of Hartford County. He quietly donated to many charities and youth organizations.
George’s life revolved around his family. Attending his grandsons’ school events, sporting events, and graduations brought him great joy. Taking his family on vacations, spending time with them at his house on Lake Congamond and enjoying holiday dinners created a lifetime of memories for his children and grandchildren.
George was devoted to his wife of 47 years Dolly (Haynes) LaCava who he lost to cancer in 2010. He is survived by his daughter, Teresa Hrdy and her husband Raymond of Wethersfield, their sons Andrew of Centreville, Virginia and Nathan of Orlando, Florida, and by his daughter, Laurie Murdoch of Glastonbury, Walter Murdoch of Rocky Hill and their sons Jeffery, Gregory and Daniel, all of Glastonbury.
He is also lovingly remembered by his dear friend, Mary Ann Jasminski of Wethersfield, whose companionship brought him joy and comfort in recent years.
George leaves sisters Julia Lombardo and Marie Burnosky and her husband John, all of Wethersfield, brother Joseph and his wife Judith of Marlborough, and sisters-in-law Janet LaCava of Rocky Hill and Josephine LaCava of Wethersfield, Kay Haynes of Harrah, Oklahoma and many nieces and nephews. George was predeceased by his sisters Ann Cirelli, Rosemarie Palazzolo and her husband Paul, brothers Rocco, Dominic and his wife Helen, Anthony and his wife Mary, Ozzie and his wife Lil, Frank, Peter, Louis and Carmen and his wife Jan, brothers-in-law Sam Lombardo, Edward Haynes and his wife Betty, and Raymond Haynes and nephews John R. and Jeffrey Burnosky.
George was a devout Catholic and member of the Church of the Incarnation who attended mass regularly. His devotion to God was evident in the way he lived - kind, humble, and always ready to lend a helping hand. George’s life was guided by prayer, the sacraments, and a steadfast trust in God’s plan. He will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his love for his family, and his gentle spirit.
Funeral services will begin Saturday, April 18th at 9:45 a.m. from the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd. Wethersfield followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Incarnation Church of Christ the King Parish, 544 Prospect Street, Wethersfield. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Glastonbury. Calling hours will be from 3-6 p.m. on Friday, April 17th at the funeral home.
