George passed away peacefully on December 30, 2024 at St. Francis Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born and raised in Hartford, he was the youngest of 5 children born to Charles and Anna (Kripas) on April 23,1935. He attended Hartford Public Schools including Bulkeley High School before enlisting in the United States Navy in 1954. While in the Navy he was able to see many parts of the world and shared his adventures as a Tin Can Sailor.
He was happily married to Katherine (Saviske) for 57 years before her passing in 2017. Prior to his retirement in 1977 he worked at Harvey and Lewis Opticians, Charles C. Lewis Steele Company and American Steele and Aluminum. He had strong roots in the South End of Hartford where he had many friends. He enjoyed time spent at Franklin Giant Grinder Shop helping prep for the day in addition to hanging out with the guys. He was a faithful communicant of The Church of the Incarnation Wethersfield where he lived for 46 years before moving to Rocky Hill in 2021. George was a weather watcher, enjoyed watching the Golf Channel, spent many years camping at Hammonasset with family and friends and he had fun on the yearly bus trips to Yankee Stadium with his son-in-law and family even though he was a Red Sox fan. He also liked to fish, a hobby he shared with his nephew. He was know in many circles as “the mayor”, always with a smile, interested in other folks adventures, lived with positive attitude and with a genuine upbeat personality. He was a proud Veteran. He supported The Tin Can Sailors, The VFW and Disabled American Veterans. George had a great sense of humor.
He especially loved family gatherings for birthday celebrations, holidays, picnics, weddings or just getting together. He lived a very happy life and was beyond grateful for all the relationships he had along the way. Being a grandpa came easy to him. He cherished time spent with his grandchildren.
A loving father and grandfather, George will be forever missed by his daughter Laura Bloomquist and husband Doug of Wethersfield and grandchildren Alyssa and Kevin. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Evelyn Connors, nephews and niece Mike Connors, Dennis Connors and Carol Fish as well as a host of extended family and dear friends. A proud Lithuanian at the age of 89 was the oldest living member of the Plunge Family. A sincere thank you to the staff on 10-9 at St. Francis. From his Godson, “Nobody lacked laughter and a good time in the presence of Uncle George!”
