Born June 4, 1940 in Hartford, he was the son of the late Herbert and Doris (Violette) Miller. Jim attended St. Peters and Holy Trinity High School, along with the Hartford Institute of Accounting. After serving in the Army, Jim had a successful career primarily with Combustion Engineering and Travelers. During retirement, he enjoyed working for the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel.
A lifelong athlete and sports fan, Jim ran three New York City marathons and was an avid UCONN Women’s Basketball fan. He found great joy on the golf course with family and friends, sharing stories and laughter across many fairways. He gave back to his community as a proud member of UNICO, and volunteered at the Bushnell and the Wethersfield Senior Center.
Jim will be dearly missed by his ‘special lady’ of 17 years, June Eccher, his daughters Suzanne Curtin (Thomas), Amy Dignoti (Anthony) and son James Miller (Claudia), all of Wethersfield. He also leaves his cherished grandchildren, Christopher (Jenny) and Colin Curtin, James, Emily and Julia Miller, nephew James Miller and niece Debra LeMay (Ray), as well as the Eccher family, cousins and dear friends. Jim was predeceased by the mother of his children, Carol Atwood, second wife Denise LaPointe, brother Robert Miller, and nephew Ronald Miller.
The family will receive friends and relatives on Thursday, June 12, from 8:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at Christ the King Parish (Church of the Incarnation), 544 Prospect Street, Wethersfield. Burial will be at West Meadow Cemetery, Newington. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Helen and Harry Gray Cancer Center at https://giving.hartfordhospital.org/donate/.
