Jonathon L. Ensign, passed away on December 3, 2023 at the age of 78. His passing leaves an enormous hole in his family and friend’s hearts. He is deeply missed by his wife, Cheryl of 33 years, his son, Sam, his daughter Dana, his son-in-law David and his brother Spencer. He will be forever cherished and remembered by his precious “g-daughter”, Laney. His beloved pets are lost without his presence at home.
Predeceased by his parents, Jack & Vera Ensign, Jonathon's journey began on June 21, 1945, in Hartford, on the first day of summer. He grew up in Wethersfield, CT and received his Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Connecticut. He went on to earn his Juris Doctor from The University of Connecticut Law School. Jonathon was admitted to the bar in 1973 and proudly held his license through 2022.
Before heading to Law School, Jonathon started his career as a middle school English teacher but quickly decided to make a career change. He started practicing law at a private firm before moving onto the State of Connecticut as an Assistant Attorney General specializing in taxation, where he would spend the remainder of his working years. Anyone that worked alongside of Jonathon knew what a wonderful person he was, even if he was opposing counsel.
A lifelong Huskies fan, one of his favorite pastimes was watching the UConn basketball teams play, faithfully documenting the games in his calendar so he would not miss one.
Jonathon had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and loved to share it with anyone and everyone. He made friends wherever he went and loved calling people to talk. His meticulous, methodical approach to telling stories was well known by all and not one of us would change it for the world.
Jonathon loved his family fiercely; he would not hesitate to give them or anyone in need the shirt off his back. He proudly supported many causes over the years. In the last decade he loved watching his g-daughter grow. His morning text greeting was such a highlight in our day.
Jonathon eagerly anticipated his weekly Friday lunch dates with his dear friends at Max Bibos. Sharing laughs and stories was one of his favorite parts of the week.
