

Joseph F. Schimanskey Jr. of Wethersfield, CT. Loving husband of Katherine (Chesney) Schimanskey, son of the late Joseph F. and Agathe Schimanskey, passed away Tuesday (May 25, 2010) at St. Francis Hospital from complications following a courageous battle with cancer. Joe grew up in Wethersfield where he attended public schools and graduated from Wethersfield High with the class of 1948. In recent years, Joe and his pals enjoyed attending WHS Soccer and Baseball games, always cheering on the old alma mater. In his youth Joe was an outstanding, four-sport athlete and in 2003 he was inducted into the Wethersfield Alumni Athletic Hall of Fame for his outstanding athletic achievements. Joe also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, attending their sporting and academic events. He served in the U.S. Navy and played on the All-Navy Basketball team. Joe worked for forty years with HELCO/CL&P, retiring as Area Supervisor of Lines in 1992. He was an active member of the Hartford Elks #19 and a past member of the American Legion Bourne-Keeney Post 23 in Wethersfield. Along with his beloved wife, Joe is survived by his son, William Schimanskey of Washington State; his step-sons and their families Robert McOmber and Marlene Belliveau of Tolland, Stephen and Carol McOmber of Windsor, Jeffrey and Corinne McOmber of Oakdale, and Neil and Kelly McOmber of Enfield; and many dear friends, neighbors, and co-workers, especially Ginger Genua and Victoria Lombardi and the Wednesday Coffee Club. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kristen and Jason Schimanskey, Drew, Chesney, Mary, Jackie, Scott, and James McOmber. He was predeceased by his son Stephen Schimanskey. The funeral services will be held Saturday May 29, 2010 at 11:15 a.m. from the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd. Wethersfield followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 noon in Corpus Christi Church, 601 Silas Deane Highway, Wethersfield. Burial will be in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill. Family and friends may call on Friday May 28, 2010 from 4-8 p.m. at the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, Wethersfield.
