Joyce (Vicorito) Wamester, 86, of Wethersfield, passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at Hartford Hospital with her family by her side. She was the wife of the late Francis S. Wamester. Joyce was born on March 2, 1936 in Hartford, daughter of the late Joseph and Ann (Sopelak) Vicorito. She was a graduate of Hartford Public High School and resided most of her adult life in Wethersfield.
Joyce was a stay at home mother who took great pride in her ability to provide for her children and grandchildren. Joyce loved her weekly hair appointments, watching the Hallmark Channel and going out to the movies, eating out at restaurants, and shopping. She enjoyed vacationing at her condo in Myrtle Beach, SC several times a year and would never turn down a strawberry daiquiri. However, her greatest joy was being surrounded by her family. She would do anything in the world for her daughters, her grandchildren, and her great-granddaughter.
Joyce will be lovingly remembered by her three daughters, Cynthia Bortolan and her husband Dante of Rocky Hill, Leanne Cios and her husband Jesse of Rocky Hill, and Carolee Remme and partner Joseph Bovino of Newington; and her six beloved grandchildren, Nicole Bortolan Guillet (Wesley) of Cromwell, Christopher Bortolan of Newington, Matthew Bortolan of Middletown, Ryan Cios of Rocky Hill, Shelby Cios of Stafford Springs, Taylor Remme of Washington, DC and one very special great granddaughter, Hailey Joy Guillet of Cromwell. Joyce also leaves behind a brother in law and sister in law, William and Noranne Wamester of Wethersfield. She was predeceased by her brother, Michael, and leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Joyce’s family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff at Salmon Brook Nursing and Rehab in Glastonbury and to Maria Wolf of Farmington, who served as her personal caregiver for several years. Their unwavering care, attention, and love for Joyce have helped to keep her with us over the years. Thank you to Karen Lewis who traveled every other week to do her hair and make her feel beautiful. Thank you to her roommate and our dear friend, Jan Cogan, who was mom’s guardian angel to the end, and a special thank you to Dr. Nickolas Coombs of the UConn residency program at Hartford Hospital for his care and compassion during this difficult time.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, January 8th at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday, January 9th at Corpus Christi Church (Christ the King Parish), 601 Silas Deane Highway, Wethersfield.
