Mary Ann (Falenski) Mead, 82, of Rocky Hill, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 2, 2025 at Hartford Hospital. Born in Bristol on January 3, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Adam and Bernice Anna (Spakowski) Falenski. Mary Ann graduated from Bristol High School and earned her nursing degree from the University of Connecticut. After graduating from college, she moved to New York City and worked as a registered nurse in hospitals there. She relocated back to Connecticut in her late 20’s and worked in a variety of medical facilities, many of those years spent in nursing homes caring for older patients and those recovering or rehabilitating from injuries. For most of her career, she worked at Soundview Specialized Care Center in West Haven. Born and raised Catholic, she later converted to Lutheran and spent the rest of her life attending Lutheran services, most recently over the past couple of decades at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wethersfield. For many years while she was physically able to, she was actively involved in her church, volunteering to assist with many charitable efforts. Some of these included efforts to support the homeless at the Mercy House soup kitchen in Hartford and assisting with various events sponsored by St. Paul’s, including Zachary’s Table, a weekly dinner open to those in need. She could often be seen preparing meals in the church’s kitchen, helping with fundraising events and working to inspire other members of the congregation to offer their time and support to those in need. After she retired from nursing, she also volunteered as a companion to the elderly for many years.
A loving mother and grandmother, Mary Ann will be forever missed by her devoted daughter, LeeAnne (Werner) Creevy and husband Joseph of Rocky Hill and her two adored granddaughters who brought her so much joy, Megan and Michaela Creevy of Rocky Hill. She is also survived by her sister, Joan Trafford and husband Ronald of Bristol; two nieces, Dawn Marie Brenner and husband Mark of Terryville and Wendy Ann Trafford of Bristol; a great-niece, Kolbie Brenner and a great-nephew, Kyle Brenner. In addition to her parents, Mary Ann was predeceased by her maternal aunt who was important throughout her life, Florence “Flossie” (Spakowski) Dluglosz.
Calling hours will be Saturday, January 11 from 9-11 a.m. concluding with a Prayer Service at 11 a.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield.
