

Michael A. DeCrescente, PhD of Wethersfield—a resident for 53 years, died peacefully at Hartford Hospital surrounded by his loving family on November 10, 2014 at the age of 82. He was born on March 10, 1932 in Mechanicville, NY to the late Michael and Jenny (Cenci) DeCrescente. He was predeceased in death by his brother, Carmine of Warrington, PA, and his grandson, Christopher. Mike is survived by his wife, Mary (Camarota) DeCrescente and children, Michael and Coleen DeCrescente of Miami, FL, Paul and Suzan (Wall) DeCrescente of Hamden and granddaughters, Cara, Lisa and Megan, David and Maggie (McSweeny) DeCrescente of East Hampton and grandsons, Andrew and Benjamin, and MaryJane DeCrescente of Wethersfield. Mike is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews. Mike graduated from Siena College in 1954 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Chemistry. He married Mary, his high school sweetheart, in 1955. Mike was awarded the Union Carbide and Carbon Fellowship for the Study of Physical Chemistry at Rennselear Polytechnic Institute, and completed his doctorate in 1958. After moving to Wethersfield, Mike started his career at United Technology Research Center (UTRC). Mike worked with UTRC for over 38 years as a Director of Materials Research, where he held numerous patents for critical technologies for the industry. He then worked at ConnStep for 22 years as a Principle Lean Manufacturing Consultant advocating for small and medium manufacturing companies in CT. Mike was a leader in his community. He served on the Board of Education for Wethersfield, the Wethersfield Democratic Town Committee, and was President of the Wethersfield Midget Football League. Throughout his life, Mike remained a devout Catholic. He was a member and lector at Corpus Christi Parish, a member of the Parish Council, and of the PTO.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday (November 14) at 12 noon at Corpus Christi Church, 601 Silas Deane Hwy., Wethersfield. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Mike’s life. The burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Calling hours are at Corpus Christi Church prior to the Mass from 11 a.m. – 12 noon.
