Ninfa "Nan" Carpino of Wethersfield, CT passed away peacefully on Friday, December 30, 2022. She was the devoted wife of the late John F. Carpino and cherished mother of Linda Carpino (John), Janice O’Brien (Kevin), John Carpino (Elaine) and Phillip Carpino (Kathy). She will be greatly missed by her beloved grandchildren Scott, Kaitlin and Patrick O’Brien, Kelly Evans (Dustin), Joseph and Jennifer Carpino and Christopher and Alex Carpino.
Born and raised in Hartford, CT, mom was a graduate of Hartford Public High School. She met dad at a beach picnic on a warm summer day in 1953. From then on, they were inseparable, marrying in August 1954. Together, they raised their family of four children, worked at and retired from the Travelers Insurance Company, then spent the next ten years traveling the globe and finding a wide variety of treasures which decorate the family home to this day.
Upon dad’s passing in 1998, mom began a new phase in her life, continuing to travel, including a trip to Paris for her 75th birthday with Linda, a family cruise to Bermuda, and trips to Europe with the grandchildren. At home, she volunteered her time and talent at the Keeney Museum in Old Wethersfield. She loved her time at the Keeney and was so proud that her 20 years of service earned her a place in the Keeney’s Volunteer Hall of Fame.
Mom’s best days were those where she was surrounded by her family, enjoying a glass of wine and a good meal. We thank her eternally for the memories we have of family dinners, laughter and love. She was the heart of our family and we will miss and remember her every day.
The family would like to thank the staff at South Cross, particularly Adriana and Shirlean, for their kind and compassionate care of mom over the past year, as well as the Hartford Hospice at Home team and the staff at West Hartford Health and Rehabilitation Center, who cared so well for mom in her final days.
In lieu of flowers, donations in mom’s name can be made to the Wethersfield Historical Society, 150 Main St., Wethersfield, CT, 06109.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, January 6th at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 7th at the Church of the Incarnation (Christ the King Parish) 544 Prospect St., Wethersfield, CT.
