

Ralph M. Chiaradia, Jr., beloved husband of Jacqueline “Jackie” (Gionet) Chiaradia, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2016 at the age of 84. Born in Hartford on October 8, 1931, he was the son of the late Ralph and Margaret (Guadagno) Chiaradia and he lived in the city his whole life. Ralph was an engineer for 37 years at Pratt & Whitney retiring as a tool designer. In 1963, Ralph won the U.S. National Championship as a middleweight weight lifter. In 1964, he founded Aikido of Connecticut, the first Aikido Dojo in CT and 13th in the nation, where he taught for 52 years-teaching his last class on May 5, 2016. He also had a deep love of salt water fly fishing. In addition to his wife, Ralph is survived by his niece, Lucy Tine and her son Michael; stepsons Roy and his partner Ceil and their children; Drena and Adam; Michael and his wife Michelle and their children; Cheyenne, Emily and Jenna. Ralph was predeceased by his beloved daughter, Joanna and his sister, Terry Kultgren.
A Memorial Service will be held at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield on Sunday, June 26, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. The family will receive relatives and friends beginning at 9:30. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Indian Rock Nature Preserve, 501 Wolcott Road, Bristol, CT 06010.
