

Robert “Bob” Burton Stevens, Sr., 71, of Rocky Hill and formerly Wethersfield, loving husband of the late Mary P. (Ferraro) Stevens, died unexpectedly on Sunday (August 31, 2014) at Middlesex Hospital with his family at his side. He was born January 5, 1943 in Montague, Massachusetts and was the son of the late Joseph Bradley Stevens and Vivian Mae (Berry) Stevens Violette. Bob was raised and educated in Lewiston, ME. He served as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne at Fort Bragg in the U.S. Army before moving to Manchester, CT in 1962. He retired in 1997 from the State of Connecticut, Department of Public Works with over 25 years of dedicated service, then began the pursuit of his golf game. He was a member of the B.P.O.E., Lodge 2308 Wethersfield/Rocky Hill. Bob enjoyed playing golf at Goodwin Park as part of the Men’s League and he always looked forward to his golf trips with his friends. He loved playing and umpiring softball, roller skating, bowling and playing cards. He was a car and motorcycle enthusiast and an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox, Boston Bruins, New England Patriots and UCONN basketball, but most of all he enjoyed good food and especially spending time with his grandchildren, attending all their school, sporting, special events and being on vacation with them. He was affectionately known by his grandchildren as “Bobbin” and “Grandpa Wally.” He will be sadly missed by his family and many friends. Bob is survived by his children, Rosanne “Rosie” Moreira and husband Joseph of Hebron, Deborah Stevens-Gallucci and Steven Armstrong of Naples, FL and Robert B. Stevens, Jr. and wife Brenda of Rocky Hill. He will also be dearly missed by his four adored grandchildren, Jeffrey G. Gallucci, Jenna Moreira, Ashley Stevens and Mason A. Armstrong. Bob is also survived by his sister, Sally Bourget of Lisbon Falls, ME; brother, Michael Stevens, sister, Peggy Needham and brother, John “Whitey” Violette, all of ME. He will also be missed by his godchild, Nicole Daigle of Lewiston, ME, as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his nephew, Mark “Ziggy” Zigman, brother-in-law, Rosario “Tony” Ferraro, sister-in-law, Catherine Zigman, brother, James Stevens and his step-father, Leon Violette.

Funeral service will be Friday at 9 a.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Corpus Christi Church, 601 Silas Deane Hwy., Wethersfield. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Calling hours are Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
