Salvatore J. Amenta

Salvatore “Sal” J. Amenta, 88, of Rocky Hill and formerly Wethersfield, beloved husband for 64 years of Marie (Parisi) Amenta, peacefully passed into eternal life with his loving family by his side on Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at Jefferson House in Newington. Born in Hartford on October 6, 1930, he was the son of the late Santo and Francesca (Cianci) Amenta and lived in Wethersfield most of his life prior to moving to Rocky Hill 15 years ago.

He was a 1948 graduate of Bulkeley High School in Hartford and served proudly in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Sal spent his career in the automotive industry, starting as a sales representative for Alemite Equipment and then as general manager of Bursey-Chappell (a Goodyear Tire distributor.) Sal then founded Modern Tire & Auto Service in 1968 in the Elmwood section of West Hartford and expanded the business throughout the greater Hartford area with his son continuing his legacy.

Sal lived life to the fullest. He was proud of his Sicilian heritage and a member of the Canicattinese Society, as well as a charter member of the Wethersfield chapter of UNICO National. He belonged to the B.P.O. E. Lodge #2308, Rocky Hill. He was a long-time member of Wethersfield Country Club. Sal was also a faithful communicant of Church of the Incarnation in Wethersfield. Sal and Marie spent many years wintering in Pompano Beach, Florida and they enjoyed spending time with friends they met there. Sal enjoyed many wonderful relationships with friends and loved entertaining, playing piano and accordion, golfing and playing cards. He had a joy for gardening in his yard with beautiful plants and flowers. Sal especially enjoyed having coffee with friends where he was known for his incredible sense of humor and his famous one-liners.

More than anything, Sal cherished any time spent with his family. A loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he will be forever missed by his loving wife Marie; three children, Patricia A. Carbray and her husband Richard of Rocky Hill, Susan A. Ryan and her husband Scott of Hudson, MA, and Robert S. Amenta and his wife Laura of Glastonbury. He leaves seven adored grandchildren Matthew and his wife Shannon Carbray, Amy Carbray, Benjamin and his wife Kathleen Ryan, Brendan Carbray, Kaitlin Ryan, Jacquelyn Amenta and James Amenta. He also leaves two cherished great-grandchildren Michaela and Nathaniel Salvatore Carbray. He is also survived by his cousin “brother” Paul Cianci of California and his sister-in-law, Carol Goodman and her significant other Frank Salvatore of Wethersfield, as well as several nieces, nephews and many friends. He was predeceased by his sisters, Mary Giangreco and Connie Scata.

Sal’s family would like to extend their sincere gratitude and appreciation to the dedicated nurses and entire staff at Jefferson House for the professionalism, care, love and compassion given to Sal and his entire family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday (October 5) at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of the Incarnation, 544 Prospect St.Wethersfield. Everyone is asked to please go directly to the church. Burial with military honors will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Section 32, Rocky Hill. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, (October 4), from 4-7 p.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield.
