Vincent Castro, 102, cherished husband to Lillian F. (Piscottano) Castro of Wethersfield, entered from the Hartford Hospital with family by his side, into his true home, Heaven and the loving arms of Jesus, on Wednesday, April 3, 2024.
Vincent, also known to his friends and family as Jim, was born in Springfield, MA the son of the late Giuseppe and Concetta (Mazzone) Castro. Vincent attended Christ the King Seminary in New York for six years and achieved at Central Connecticut State University a Bachelor of Arts in English. He served in the Air National Guard and retired from United Technologies Corporation as a Senior Technical Writer.
An avid reader and poet (he especially enjoyed composing sonnets), Vincent's prized possessions were shelved in his expansive book collection. He enjoyed much comfort from a variety of music alongside theater performances, playing piano and organ and to the delight of his son, Jim, and grandson, John Paul, a competitive chess player. His infatuation with ballroom dancing took him on the dance floor with his partner Lillian.
Vincent will be remembered for his endearing and strong faith as a Roman Catholic and was known for his pleasant smile. He was a received Third Order Carmelite, a participant at My Father's House Retreat Center and as a younger man, a Lector at his parish Incarnation Church.
In addition to his beloved wife, Lillian, of 62 years, married at St. Augustine Church in Hartford, he is survived by his children; Bernadine, Joseph, James, son-in-law Anthony Franco, and daughter-in-law Carol. He was blessed to share his life with six grandchildren and precious six great-grandchildren. We draw comfort, through the depths of our grief, knowing he passed peacefully after a short illness. Our family will continue to honor and celebrate him at our annual Father's Day Lobster family feasts. Vincent remains steadfastly in our hearts, our spirits and multitude of memories.
A time of visitation will be held on Friday, May 3 from 10 - 11 a.m. at D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield followed by his Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. at Christ the King Parish - Church of the Incarnation Campus, 544 Prospect St., Wethersfield. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, 1 Cottage Grove Rd., Bloomfield. In honor and memory of Vincent, the family will make donations to: Wounded Warrior Project: https://www.woundedarriorproject.org/ and Mercy Ships: https://www.mercyships.org/ To share a memory or tribute, please visit www.desopofuneralchapel.com
