Zenia was born in Poland, and at a young age immigrated with her mother Regina Kolpaczyk to the United States at the end of WWII. She met her future husband John (Janek) in Hartford, and after they married, they first lived in there and had two children, Jean and Edward. Later the family moved to their dream home they helped build in Wethersfield.
Zenia enjoyed the many gatherings she hosted and shared with family and friends throughout her life. Her favorite memories include cooking and baking for Sunday afternoon dinners with close Polish friends who were treated like family; taking weekend drives to Hammonasset State Beach to swim, play and laugh; and the annual road trip to New Jersey to visit cousins and their families, and where her cool niece Diane would take all the kids to the shore. There were trips to New York City, too and the great time at the NY World’s Fair!
In recent years, Zenia lived with her son Ed and daughter-in-law Barbara, and spent time admiring flowers and helping to tend the garden; watching the swans on the reservoir, and enjoying the sunset. She would also sing Polish lullabies, talk with her grown grandchildren, and lavish her pet sheltie “Rocket” with treats and love. A memorable moment was when she first met her great grandson Cooper at Christmastime, soon after he was born…she beamed that day. Her friend Joan was a comfort to her at Marlborough Health, where she was treated with love and care by the entire staff.
Devoted to her family and to God, Zenia was a gentle, loving, hard working woman. She will be remembered for her kindness, integrity, and deep faith. She was also a long time parishioner of SS. Cyril & Methodius Church in Hartford.
Zenobia’s husband John passed away in 1999. She is survived and will be dearly missed by her son Ed Wierzbicki and his wife Barbara of Wethersfield, CT; and by her daughter, Jean Barry and her husband Michael of Lexington, MA. Zenobia also leaves four grandchildren: Nathan Wierzbicki and his wife Kate; Matthew Wierzbicki and his wife Sharlene; Violet Barry; Nicholas Barry; and one great grandchild: Cooper Wayne Wierzbicki.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, May 10, at 10:00 a.m. at SS Cyril & Methodius Parish, 63 Popieluszko Court, Hartford. Everyone is asked to please go directly to the church. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. There are no calling hours.
