She was born on April 25, 1929, and was the daughter of the late Paul H. and Margaret (Mundy) Simmers.
Mrs. Stroop was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church and was the church pianist for over 50 years. She worked part-time for Harrisonburg Auto Auction and then full-time at Blue Ridge Community College for ten years.
On April 24, 1948, she married, Carson E. Stroop, who preceded her in death on October 9, 2009.
Her parents and a brother, Harry Simmers also preceded her in death.
She is survived by four children, Ellen Stroop and partner, C.E. Sturman, Dale Stroop, Carolyn Moore and husband, Jacques, Jerry Stroop and wife, Debbie; four grandchildren, Paul Robinson, Adam and Corey Stroop and Julia Smith; four great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Betty Simmers; niece, Bobbi Simmers and nephew, Steve Simmers; and numerous Stroop-related nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends 6-8 pm, Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at Lindsey Funeral Home in Weyers Cave.
A graveside service will be held 10 am, Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at Naked Creek Cemetery. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 11 am, at Bethany United Methodist Church Pastor Blaine Thomas and Pastor Shawna Hiner officiating.
