Sylvia, I am sorry to hear the loss of your husband.  I never met Dan but I felt that I new him as a close friend.  We talked to each other for over 2 years through business.  Last time we spoke was at the end of September.  After I failed to reach him at work I googled  his name and discover his Obituary in a shock. Dan was a wonderful person and I miss talking to him. He was talking about sheepdog trials at your farm and mentioned about Dan. I only met Dan once,but you two looked so happy together. I cant imagine how you feel.I am so very sorry!

Dear Sylvia and yours and Dan's families, I have had the honor to have worked the last six and half years with Dan in the B5A lab. Everything the speakers at Dan's memorial said were so true of Dan's kind and gentle nature, and all that he held dear. The memorial was beautiful and moving and truly fitting for Dan. It was the most beautiful and meaningful service I have ever attended. 

I wish one of the many of us from Merck had been able to have spoken of how much we enjoyed working with Dan. He really was scary smart as one of hte speakers said. He was an Inclusion Leader here at Merck, but Dan was practicing inclusive behaviours long before the program started here. It was innate to him. 

We will truly miss him, even my daughter who though she didn't personally know Dan, knew of him. Kaiti works at Mr. J.'s Bagels on south 42 in Harrisonburg and would bring old bagels for him to give to the chickens. When I told her about Dan, she asked me if it was the "chicken man". He was that and so very much more. 

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and we will cherish our memories of Dan always.

Joe Evans wrote to tell me about Dan and instructed me to cherish the crook Dan had made for me. I knew I was lucky to have received such a piece of art and craftsmanship. I will hold it dear and cherish it even more for knowing what a wonderful kind person Dan was.

Sylvia, I was so sorry to read of Dan's passing.  When I first brought Abby to the 'first' Quiet Acres after rescuing her from the shelter, Dan reassured me that, with your help, we would get her on an even keel and she would be a great dog.  She is. I so appreciated his interest and will never forget his kind and comforting words.  May the legacy of his kind and comforting spirit give you strength in this difficult time.

I met Dan shortly after starting to work at Merck 9 years ago.  I always enjoyed speaking with him because he was so kind, helpful and full of ideas.

This time of loss is very difficult and I am trully sorry for your loss.  I pray to God that he gives your family peace and strenght until you are united again.

Dan was my replacement in the lab when I moved to a new position.  When I first met him, I remember wondering with a smile how he would fit his tall frame into that "bubble" without hitting the very top. What a sad day for us all.  Dan lived his life the way he named his farm, quietly, but passionately.  Always a gentle man - generous, kind and thoughtful, he had the wonderful and unique ability make people feel special.  Sitting in the rockers on his front porch, surveying the farm Quiet Acres, the sunsets, the rainbows ... I could, through him for a moment, share in his dream.

It is an incredible testament to Dan's amazing heart to see how many people's lives were touched by his kind spirit, including mine. I grew up with the Kings throughout the 1970s in Pittsburgh and Dan was like a little brother.  All the Kings have been my second family since then but as we all scattered I feel I really missed out on something by not knowing Dan throughout his adult life - it seems like it was a very special one and attracted the respect and love of everyone he met.  I am so sad that this wonderful family - and all of us - have lost Dan so suddenly.  He lives in our hearts but it will be hard not continuing to see pictures of Dan's life - and his love for his farm, his life, his family and his friends.
