Iva Catherine Hulvey Long

Iva Catherine Hulvey Long, 98, of Stuarts Draft, passed away on Sunday, February 25, 2018. She was born in Rockingham County on February 10, 1920 and was the daughter of the late Ivan Haven and Frances Baker Hulvey. Iva was a lifelong resident of Rockingham County and graduated from Port Republic High School. She was a Registrar for Rockingham County and retired in 1985. She was a member of McGaheysville United Methodist Church. Iva was an avid gardener and took care of the flowers at the Stuarts Draft Retirement Community where she resided for the last several years. On December 25, 1941 she married Ervin C. Long who preceded her in death on September 2, 2007. She is survived by a son, Larry E. Long and wife, Frances, of Fishersville; a daughter, Karen L. Wolf of Stuarts Draft, and fiancé, Ralph Alexander of Smith Mountain Lake; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; four nieces and one nephew. In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Catherine Shifflett; a brother, Leonard Hulvey; two sisters Sylvia Hooke and Sudie Craun. Honoring her wishes, she will be cremated and a memorial service will be held 2:00 pm, Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at Lindsey Funeral Home in Harrisonburg with Chaplain Karen Moore officiating.
