Melanson, Grace Bernadette (Landry) of Tideview Terrace and formerly of Ashmore, it is with heavy hearts , we announce that our beautiful Mom passed away peacefully, at the age of 98 on February 2, 2019 . She was born on July 28, 1920, daughter of the late Bertha (Bouchard) and Jeff Landry of River Bourgeois.
Mom was proud of her Cape Breton roots. Grace was a former member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and will be buried in the church cemetery. Grace was very talented doing crafts, even made wedding cakes, and the following are some of the activities she loved, sewing ( from wedding dresses, Barbie and Ken outfits), stuffed toys, quilting , playing cards, Frenchy’s , road trips mainly in Nova Scotia, where she earned the nickname “Road Runner”, spending time with friends and above all else, her family.
Grace is survived by daughters Caroline (Corale), Anne (Victor),Patsy, Ruth (Grant), sons Edward (Lorena) , Harvey (Elaine), sisters Ann Sladden, brothers Cyril, Alcantra and Everett Landry, 11 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, she loved dearly. Grace was predeceased by her husband of 34 years, Edward “Ted”, daughter Sandra, son Peter in infancy, and granddaughter Angela.
Visitation will be 7-9pm Thursday , February 7 from Jayne’s Funeral Home , Weymouth North (902-245-2525) . Funeral service will be 11 am Friday, February 8, from St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Hall, Weymouth. Father Vincent Onyekelu will officiate with burial in Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, Plympton. Reception to follow at the Royal Canadian Legion, Weymouth. Donations in memory can be made to Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, Gilbert’s Cove Lighthouse, or to the charity of your choice.
