

THOMPSON, Jonathan Patrick Arthur - 39, of Weymouth passed away peacefully in his sleep in the early morning hours of October 22, 2022 after a lifelong battle with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. He was the son of Arthur and Sheila Thompson. His faith gave those around him strength and courage and was an inspiration to all those who knew him. Besides his parents, he will be sadly missed by his two sisters Krista (Luke) Mullen of Weymouth, Amy Thompson and a much loved nephew Hunter Thibault of Acaciaville. As well, he will be sadly missed by two grandmothers, Isabel (Lloyd Baker) Mullen of New Tusket and Ruby Thompson of Granville Ferry. He was predeceased by two grandparents, Clyde Mullen of New Tusket and Elbert Thompson of Granville Ferry. As an extended family member, his caregiver, Amanda Adams also mourns his passing. He was much loved by many aunts, uncles and cousins. Jonathan was a member of the New Tusket Baptist Church and served as Honorary Pastor Emeritus. He graduated from high school at Ecole Secondaire De Clare in Meteghan River. He went on to attend St Mary's University graduating with a Bachelor Arts Degree. After attending St Mary's he went on to Acadia Divinity College where after a semester he succumbed to his disease and returned home where he lived with his parents until passing. Although confined to a wheelchair for the greater part of his life, he had many adventures and excursions. As a younger child he had two trips to Florida to Disney World. He made two trips to New York where he toured the city of New York and received his Canine Companion service dog who was his constant companion for many years. In 1993, he traveled to Toronto where he attended a Toronto Blue Jay's game and had the privilege of meeting many of the ball players. During his university years he traveled to Toronto to see the St. Mary's Huskies play in the Vanier cup. He experienced a short trip out on a lobster boat, sailed around the Halifax Harbor on a tall ship and flew in a helicopter throughout Digby County. He was an avid Star Wars fan and enjoyed watching the movies over and over and over. He also collected various Star Wars memorabilia. He also had a love for fantasy movies and old TV sitcoms. He spent his days surfing the World Wide Web and watching sports. Being an avid sports fan he was knowledgeable of all the players of baseball, football, basketball teams and Nascar racing. His favorite sports teams were the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bulls, Montreal Canadians and the Philadelphia Eagles. During his lifetime he was able to witness the Chicago Cubs win the World Series, Philadelphia Eagles win the Super Bowl and was still waiting for Montreal to win the Stanley Cup. His favorite car racer has just qualified to race in the Nascar championship series. He enjoyed attending local ball games at the Weymouth Cricket field to watch the Weymouth Firebirds play. In his youth held the position of batboy for the Weymouth Peewee baseball team. Although he was unable to play sports himself he enjoyed cruising. Going around the golf course as his parents and family played golf. In recent years, the highlight of his year was spending a few days at Mersey River Chalets with his family. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flower, memorial donations may be made in his memory to the New Tusket Baptist Church. By request of the family there will be no visitation. A celebration of Jonathan's life will be held 2:00 pm at the Havelock Wesleyan Church in Havelock on November 2, 2022 with Rev. Trent Cleveland-Thompson officiating. Immediately following there will be a reception held at the Wesleyan Church lower level.
