Bernie was born on April 6, 1947 in Staten Island, New York to Charles Wehrle and Margaret Lund Wehrle. He was raised in Fords, New Jersey, where he proudly served his community as a firefighter for thirty four years. Bernie began as a volunteer firefighter, and worked his way up to captain over his tenure with Fords Fire Company. Bernie retired as a paid captain in 2002.
Bernie loved to be outside, to carve/wood work, and to spend time with his family, especially if he could find ways to joke around and make others laugh.
Bernie was preceded in death by his daughter, Dina Wehrle-Coakley. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty eight years, Kathleen Wehrle, his son, Darrin Wehrle, his sister, Sue Rosario, six beautiful grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.
