

Rev. Carl E. Ehrhart, 88, of the Whiting section of Manchester Twp., passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family. He was a retired Lutheran minister of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, New Jersey Synod, having been ordained in 1952. Born in Codorus, York County, PA., he was a graduate of Cordorus High School in 1944, and of Gettysburg College in 1947 and of it’s Seminary School in 1951. He then attended and graduated from Princeton Theological Seminary in 1968. He received endorsement as a chaplain supervisor, and served as a Protestant Chaplain at correctional institutions in Ashland, KY., Washington DC., Eldora, IA., and at the NJ Veterans Home, Edison. He also served as Director of Chaplaincy and Pastoral Counseling with Lutheran Social Services of NJ, and as a Pastor of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, York, PA. In retirement he served as a Pastoral Assistant at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Beachwood, NJ.
Survivng are his daughters, Cynthia Ehrhart and Gretchen Thigpen and by his brothers Sidney and David Ehrhart. There is also stepchildren, Marshall and Joanne and from Tamar, stepchildren Julie and George. He had a total 3 grandchildren, and 9 stepgrandchildren. “For all of these I am eternally grateful and leave behind with tears of joy and sorrow.”
