Edith Goddard Ruf, 101, of Crestwood Manor in Whiting, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 12, 2014 at home. Born in Brooklyn, she lived in Ridgewood, NJ and in New York City, before moving to the Leisure Village West section of Manchester Twp, then lastly to Crestwood Manor in April of 2000. She attended Western Maryland College and the New Jersey College for Women.
Mrs. Ruf was an Administrative Assistant for Ebasco Services Inc., in New York City, before retiring from business in 1946. Following retirement, she was active in the National Department of Women’s Work of the Reformed Church in America, serving as President of the Classis of New York and the Synod of New York and on the Executive Committee of the National Board of Managers. She was a member of the Executive Committee of Church Women United in Manhattan and of the Auxilliary of Warwick Estates Conference Center. She held offices in the Women’s Guild of Marble Collegiate Church, New York City, and organized and directed a workshop for retired women of that church. She also Volunteered as a substitute mother in Bellevue Hospital. She was also a charter member of the Leisure Village West Ballroom Dance Club and a member of a number of square and round dance clubs in New Jersey and Florida. Mrs. Ruf was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Toms River.
Edith is a survived by her husband of 76 years, Alfred T. Ruf, and nephews, Lee Goddard of Hadden Twp., and Glen Goddard of San Diego, CA.
Arrangements are private and under the direction of Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 115 Lacey Rd. Whiting.
