Mary Helena Bernadette Johnson, age 94, of Whiting, NJ, passed away on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at Crestwood Manor in Whiting, NJ. She was born in Lambertville, NJ and lived in Brooklyn and Long Island for most of her life before moving to Whiting, NJ. After graduating from St. Brendan Diocesan High School in Brooklyn in 1943, she worked in the Brooklyn Navy Yard purchasing valves and fittings for the Naval ships. After working for both law and insurance firms in Manhattan, NY, she spent over 25 years at Helena Rubinstein as the assistant to the Corporate Controller. When Helena Rubinstein moved their headquarters to NJ, Mary began working for the Town of North Hempstead Housing Authority helping many families with their housing challenges. After retiring, she took care of her parents on Long Island until they passed away and then she moved to Whiting, NJ. She lived at Crestwood Manor until her passing.
Mary was always an avid reader, very devoted to her faith and walked with Christ in a special way all her life. She did a lot of community volunteer work; most notable was her dedication to meeting with and helping individuals suffering from AIDS. Each member of the family felt her abundant love and share fond memories of many years together. Mary had a generous heart for helping those in need and without a voice.
Mary was the beloved daughter of Harry and Alice(née Feis) Johnson(deceased); loving sister of George Johnson(Barbara) and Harold Johnson(Ann) who all are deceased. She was also the devoted Aunt to nieces and nephews: John Johnson(Nancy), Wendy Hollingsworth, Margaret Spangler, Michael Johnson(Jodi), Bobby Johnson(Debra), Jackie Scaduto(Andrew), Henry Johnson(Sandy), Paul Johnson(Susan), Nikki Pitzer(Norm), Melissa Johnson and many great nieces and great nephews.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 27, 2019 from 6:30-8:30pm at the Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 115 Lacey Rd, Whiting, NJ 08759. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, January 28, 2019 at 10:45am at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, 30 Schoolhouse Rd, Whiting, NJ. Burial will follow at the Cemetery of the Holy Rood, 111 Old Country Road, Westbury, NY 11590.
