

William J. Long, Sr., 88, of the Whiting section of Manchester Twp., passed away on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 in Vero Beach, Fl. Born into a large family in Holmdel, NJ, William loved being outdoors and was an avid gardener. After graduating from Leonardo High School in 1945, William turned an avocation into a vocation, repairing and refinishing furniture, which became a lifelong passion. Inducted into the United States Army in 1950, Bill spent 21 months in Okinawa before being discharged in 1952.
After marrying Audrey Evigan, William moved to Middletown, NJ where he and his family lived for 35 years. The Long family were active members of the Middletown Reformed Church. In 1995, William and Audrey relocated to Whiting, NJ where they attended Whiting Bible Church and Bill spent his days caring for his gardens, talking with neighbors and showing off the “biggest pumpkins in the garden”. He always made time to visit or call a relative and loved to stay in touch with his family and friends. William was very proud of his family and would often remind them that he picked a fine, Christian mother and grandmother. He will be greatly missed!
William was predeceased by his mother, Margaretta Carton Long, father, John Long, 3 sisters, Thelma Curchin, Elizabeth Chandler and Amelia McDaniel and his brother, John Long. He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Audrey Evigan Long and his children William (Amy) of Saline, MI, Dale (Debra) of Freehold, NJ, Elaine Eisenmann (Jeffrey) of Howell, NJ, Allison Skowronski (Joseph) of Doylestown, PA, and Anita Gilbert (Robert) of Vero Beach, FL. William (Pop-Pop) is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and his sister, Margaretta Toop of Houston, TX.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 115 Lacey Rd. Whiting, Manchester Twp. 08759. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at 10am at the funeral home. Committal will follow at the Brig. Gen. Wm. C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 350 Provinceline Rd. Wrightstown, NJ.
