

Pete was born on August 6, 1926 in Wichita Falls, Texas to Santos and Maria Chavez Martinez.
Mr. Martinez started playing steel guitar professionally at the age of 12. He played with the Miller Brothers and the Callahan Brothers on KRLD Radio. He later moved to Hollywood and recorded with Tex Ritter, Jimmy Wakely, Hank Thompson and many other “singing cowboys”. He also made six movies with Jimmy Wakely.
He later moved back to Wichita Falls and married Delfina Palacios and they were married for 65 wonderful years. They had two children: Agapito Martinez, Jr. and Nicky Lee Martinez. He was preceded in death by his son, Nicky Lee Martinez on July 6, 2012.
Pete was also an accountant for Popular Furniture, Schultz and Brannon Drilling Company and Walker-Neer Manufacturing, and later became the Personnel Director for the City of Wichita Falls. He later became the Director of Pupil Transportation for the W.F.I.S.D. and was in charge of the yellow school buses. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and was a 4th Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus.
Pete was also preceded in death by his parents and step-sisters Anna Noble and Maggie Robinson.
He is survived by his wife, Delfina Martinez; son: Agapito Martinez, Jr. and wife Selinda; 2 grandsons, Agapito Sustenes Martinez III and wife Jodi and Anthony Rene Martinez and wife Jennifer; great-grandchildren, Peyton Rene Martinez, Kenedi Kathleen Martinez, Trenton Martinez, Hayden Martinez, Braylon Anthony Martinez, and Stryker Zane Martinez. He is survived by a host of nieces, nephews and many lifelong friends.
Visitation will be at 6:00 PM, Sunday at the funeral home.
Rosary will be at 7:00 PM, Sunday at the funeral home.
Mass will be at 11:00 AM, Monday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Arrangements are by Hampton-Vaughan Funeral Home of Wichita Falls.
