She was born February 2, 1929 to Charlie and Betty Gillespie in Berwyn (now Gene Autry) Oklahoma. She graduated high school there and married Robert ‘Bob’ Morris May 12, 1947. Charlene and Bob moved to Odessa and El Paso, TX; Carlsbad, and Hobbs, NM raising their family. They moved to Wichita Falls, TX in 1968. She and Bob were partners in McGinnis Welding Supply. After Bob’s death in 1979, Charlene married William E. Harvey in 1981. Charlene sold her part of McGinnis in 1985 and was employed as a bookkeeper until her retirement. She is preceded in death by her parents, Bob, and daughter Cheryl Morris.
Survivors include husband ‘Harvey’, son, Mike Morris and Jeannine, grandchildren Joni Morris and Dustin Bowen of Wichita Falls; Matt Morris and Alyse Cordelli of Wimberley, TX; Michael and Whitney Morris of Colorado Springs, CO; and Marshall Morris of Denver, CO; one great grandson Benjamin Kane Morris (Michael and Whitney); and step sons Lee Harvey and Debbie of Burkburnett, TX and Todd Harvey of Houston.
‘Meemaw’ is remembered dearly for her sharp mind, bright eyes, and quick wit. She enjoyed sewing, reading, baking pies for the holidays, and homegrown tomatoes. Charlene enjoyed travel to Hawaii, London, Las Vegas, and Branson with family. She delighted in her grand and great grandchildren and they in her.
A private family memorial service of interment for ‘Meemaw’ and ‘Aunt Cheryl’ (d10-2-19) will be held. Memorials can be made to Hospice of Wichita Falls.
