

Bettye was a devoted Christian woman of faith and service to the Lord. She had compassion, kindness, and love for all. She was a member of Westside Baptist Church in Wichita Falls and Calvary Hills Baptist Church in San Antonio. She taught both young adult and senior adult Sunday school.
Bettye attended Reagan Jr High and Wichita Falls High School, and graduated with a B.Ed from Hardin College. She excelled in Journalism and was Editor-in Chief of the Wichitan newspaper while at Hardin college.
Betty married Vern Smith, and together they had one daughter. She later married James Daniel (Dan) Humphries and together they had seven children. After completion of her family, Bettye returned to Midwestern University to complete her M.Ed and the University of North Texas in pursuit of her doctorate. Bettye worked for civil service at Sheppard Air Force Base as an Aircraft Maintenance Instructor and a Curriculum Evaluator at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. Bettye had a passion for art and in her late 60's she created beautiful watercolors and oil paintings. She loved to travel, and as a military wife, visited and lived in many different countries and states.
Bettye is preceded in death by her parents. Those left to cherish her memory include her brothers, Johnny Haney (Suzanne), Dr. J. Thomas Haney, and Robert (Bit) Haney (Joanne).
Bettye is also survived by her children, Larri Jean Jacoby, Daniel Humphries, Karyn Joalyce Wainscott, Jon Marc Humphries, James (Jay) Humphries, Jill Hendrickson, David (Lisa) Humphries, and Gary Humphries. Her grandchildren, Timothy Jantz, Christopher Jantz, Adrian Cargal, Benton Wainscott, Ian Humphries, Holly Simpson, Hunter Hendrickson, Jon Humphries, Jr., Michael Humphries, Ryan Humphries, and Tyler Humphries. Also 18 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to thank the Gables for the compassion and care given to our mother and also, Hospice of Wichita Falls.
