Maxine Cook Brown of Wichita Falls, passed away March 23, 2021 at age 97. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 26, 2021 at 10 AM at Hampton Vaughan Crestview Funeral Home. A service will follow at 11 AM in the Hampton Vaughan chapel, followed by a graveside service at Crestview Memorial Park.
Maxine and her twin brother Maurice, were born to W.D. and Mable Overton in Geronimo, Oklahoma in 1923. She grew up in Greer County Oklahoma and attended Central View High School. She married John J. Cook in 1939. They had two daughters, Janeth and Michelle. The family moved to Wichita Falls in 1946 where Jay worked for the MKT Railroad until his death in 1964. She married Pat Allen Brown in 1971. He died of complications from alzheimer’s disease in 1983.
Maxine worked for Sears for many years. She had many interests in her life; Maxine was a poet, a wonderful seamstress, gardener and cook. Maxine loved her family and was always our inspiration. She loved the Lord and shared her faith through a life of service.
She is preceded in death by her parents, twin brother Maurice, who was killed on the island of Saipan during WWII, 6 half-brothers, 5 half-sisters, 2 husbands; Jay Cook and Pat Brown and son-in-law, Jerry L. Brown.
Maxine is survived by her daughters; Jan Huffines and husband Vern and daughter Michelle Brown, 7 grandchildren; John Huffines of Cary, NC, Cherise Huffines Burnett of Midlothian, TX, Laurel Goff Stehling of Wichita Falls, TX, Wendell Huffines of Grand Prairie, TX, Debbie Thomason Berthelot of Monroe, LA, Christy Brown Blumenfeld of Cottleville, MO, and Jason Brown of Wichita Falls, TX. 11 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
