

Maxine V. Payne, 90, of Wichita Falls passed away Wednesday, November 12, 2014. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, November 15, 2014 at the chapel of Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Veterans Garden of Crestview Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 7:00 Friday evening at the funeral home.
Mrs. Payne was born March 19, 1924 in Lueders, TX to George F. Vaughn and Mamie (Smith) Vaughn. She worked as an aircraft mechanic along with her twin sister, Corrine, during World War II. She also worked as a beautician and owned her own shop. She married Jesse F. Payne on May 11, 1947 in Lueders. They moved to Sheppard Air Force Base in 1959 where she was a homemaker and mother to four children. She, Jesse and the four children were all charter members of Eden Hills Baptist Church and were very active there. Mrs. Payne was in charge of the church nursery for many years where she was known to spoil all of the children.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of over 60 years, Jesse F. Payne, U.S. Air Force, Major (Retired); a son, James F. Payne and two sisters, Corrine Cox and Odessa Johnson.
Survivors are her children, Michael V. Payne of Wichita Falls, William H. Payne and wife Georganne of Missouri City, TX and Penny L. Mattos of Iowa Park, TX; brother, Orlan ‘Bo’ Vaughn of Yuma, CO; grandchildren, Crystal Collins, Candy Patterson, Heather Carr and Nathan Bensch; also eight great grandchildren.
