She was born on October 25, 1927 in Weatherford, Texas to James Wilson Lee Garrett and Odie Pearl Poer. She worked for the U.S. Government as Chief of Communications and was a member of the Floral Heights United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years. She loved to crochet, cook, her backyard plants, birds and her fishpond. She was preceded in death by her husband: Edward E. Pate in 2018 and her son: David Sipe.
